Oh, The Sweet Smell Of Flowers!
Flowers are always a great way to pour some cheer into someone’s world, but what should you send. The choices are endless… and often overwhelming. Having owed two retail flower shops in the 90′s, I learned a thing or two. The one I am the most passionate about and share the most frequently is let the designers design.
You have three options when ordering flowers:
1) describe what you want in detail and outline every aspect
2) select a picture from a floral design gallery
3) allow a designer to use their creativity in your favor
Think about this:
While you may have a picture in your mind of exactly what you want your floral gift to look or you may have found the perfect picture in a design gallery, these are not necessarily your best options.
Here’s why:
Option #1 restricts the designer completely and is usually the most expensive, especially if the designer doesn’t have every requested flower readily available.
And while option #2 is a better, it is still not the best. Even though most floral design books or website pictures utilize standard flowers that most designers have immediate access to, it’s always “What you see is what you get” -no more, no less. And while this may be the most comfortable option #3 is by far the best choice.
With option #3 you simply choose the colors/theme, occasion and price. This will almost always get you a floral arrangement that is worth more than you paid for. The designer will not be limited to using the flowers dictated by a picture or by you, but instead will have their choice of all the flowers available for them to use and will create a unique arrangement made just for your special someone. Usually they will also let the arrangement tell them what it needs, which usually means a bigger, showier, and more creative piece -yet all for the same price.
Obviously the choice is yours… but trust me on this one: Let the floral designers do what they do best – DESIGN!
